Overview

LatchBio offers a code-free platform that enables biologists to process large volumes of experimental data and run top-tier tools like AlphaFold without programming. The Latch platform emphasizes ease of use and flexibility, providing prebuilt workflows and an SDK so computational biologists can contribute reusable pipelines. Founders Alfredo Andere (CEO), Kenny Workman (CTO) and Kyle Giffin (COO) came from Big Tech and designed the product to bring Google-scale data pipelines to biotech. The company plans to use the new funding to build out the product and hire a top software engineering team in biotech. Contracts are stacking up and LatchBio expects ARR of $1 million by the end of the year; the platform will remain free for academics. Its roadmap focuses on growing comp-bio community engagement and moving upstream to make existing biotech infrastructure more accessible to companies that can’t build in-house. Latch Bio offers a web-first, no-code platform that lets researchers upload, store, transform, and visualize CRISPR data through a browser without writing code or configuring cloud infrastructure. The platform includes plugins to import data from Amazon S3, Benchling, and Illumina’s BaseSpace and provides dozens of popular workflows such as CRISPResso, MAGeCK, CasTLE, Cas.py, MultiQC, and CasOffinder. Latch launched its platform publicly and offers it free to academic research users. The company emphasizes built-in genomic visualization and quality controls to help researchers interrogate workflow results. Its stated mission is to build and disseminate data infrastructure for the biocomputing revolution and to continue expanding the platform’s capabilities with input from users and advisors. Founders Alfredo Andere, Kyle Giffin, and Kenny Workman are former UC Berkeley undergraduates who formed the company to address bioinformatics and cloud resource bottlenecks in CRISPR research.
