Lavu offers an iPad-centric point-of-sale (POS) system tailored to restaurants, charging a licensing fee of around $1,000 per POS terminal plus a recurring monthly fee based on restaurant size. Its software is used by over 4,000 restaurants across 86 countries, with particularly high adoption in Australia, Thailand, and Singapore. Previously bootstrapped, Lavu has been profitable since its second month of operation. The company positions itself as a lower-cost alternative to legacy POS vendors such as Micros and Aloha and differs from Square by not collecting service-provider transaction fees. With new funding, Lavu plans to ramp up sales and marketing to pursue partnerships with large chains and accelerate global scaling. Founder Andy Lim has set a goal to grow the business 1,000% within the next 18 months.
