Lawtrades operates a technology platform that lets legal professionals and companies create profiles, be matched to opportunities, monitor projects, and pay through the platform. The company began in 2016 and pivoted in 2019 to sell into mid-market and enterprise legal departments, which spurred growth. Lawtrades works with customers such as DoorDash, Gusto and Pinterest and runs an invite-only network of talent (about 5% acceptance). As of December 2021 it reported an $8 million revenue run rate (up from $3 million at the start of 2021), more than $11 million earned on the platform to date, 80 customers, 150 active engagements, 1,000+ talent profiles, and roughly 60,000 hours logged in 2021. The network is 60% women and over 35% minorities. Management says the company is cash-flow positive and is leveraging revenue-based financing. Planned uses of new funding include a rebrand, an iOS app, expansion into finance and management consulting, an international footprint, and doubling headcount from 15 to 30 across product, support and sales.
