Lean Mobility
Toyota, Aichi, Japan, Asia
Overview
Lean Mobility develops ultra-compact electric mobility vehicles and related services, notably the three-wheel Lean3 which uses a front two-wheel steering and rear one-wheel drive configuration with an "Active Lean System" for body tilt and driving stability. The company positions Lean3 as a fully electric vehicle that emits no CO2 during operation and expects it to significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared with gasoline vehicles. Lean Mobility is also developing LeanX, a data platform that integrates driving data from its vehicles and is planned to support services such as charging, OTA updates, and pricing optimization. The company was founded in 2022 as a Japan–Taiwan joint venture and established its Japanese headquarters in 2025. Management includes CEO Akihiro Yanaka, a former Toyota engineer who worked on projects including the i-ROAD and C+pod. Current company plans include establishing a production line at a Tainan factory, strengthening sales and service systems in Japan and Taiwan, exploring new markets, and pursuing medium- to long-term expansion into MaaS and autonomous driving.
