Learning Machine develops BlockCerts, an open-source standard and enterprise-grade service for securing academic and professional credentials on the blockchain. The project was jointly conceived with the MIT Media Lab and the Sloan School of Management, and MIT launched the Learning Machine technology. As the enterprise provider, Learning Machine works with institutions to set up and manage blockchain credentials and charges a yearly fee to maintain those systems. The company is running its first pilots with a government and several schools. Its technology supports multiple credential types (diplomas, driver licenses, medical records) and uses schemas to standardize data across issuers. Long-term plans include “stackable certificates” or smart credentials that can automatically lead to additional credentials as users complete requirements.
