Overview
LearnUp is a San Francisco-based provider of HR solutions that partners with employers to streamline hiring operations through job-specific online training and interview coaching. Led by CEO and co-founder Alexis Ringwald, the company focuses on improving recruitment and candidate readiness for frontline and hourly roles. Its customer roster includes Gap Inc., Sprint, Staples, Dick’s Sporting Goods, The Fresh Market and AT&T. LearnUp raised $8M in a Series A financing to support product development and expand partnerships. The company plans to use the funds to expand products and partnerships across industries including retail, call centers, hospitality and food service. The raise is intended to help LearnUp broaden its employer-facing offerings and industry reach. LearnUp builds a training platform that prepares entry-level job candidates with short (three- or ten-minute) learning modules and one-hour training sessions. Modules include questions and practice on tasks like office equipment, helping applicants learn basics before interviews and enabling employers to filter for motivated candidates. Early partners include Staples, and LearnUp recently partnered with Gap's Old Navy to reach more than 200,000 job candidates and prepare workers for roles at Old Navy's 350 U.S. stores. The company is launching 'LearnUp the Ladder,' a free online initiative aimed at teaching entry-level and management skills in retail. Founder Alexis Ringwald developed the model after field research in unemployment centers and high-unemployment communities. LearnUp is backed by $1.9 million in funding from investors including NEA, Greylock and SV Angel.
