Leatherback is a U.K.-based fintech that provides cross-border, multi-currency payment accounts and foreign-exchange services. The platform offers multi-currency accounts with the ability to exchange currency across a wide set of countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Nigeria, Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania, Angola, South Africa, the UAE, Denmark, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire. The company targets immigrants, international students, and the broader migrant population that require international payments. Prior to this round Leatherback was bootstrapped by its founders and is led by co-founder and CEO Ibrahim Toyeeb. The $10M pre-seed funding will be deployed to raise Leatherback’s profile in fintech and extend capacity in countries where it is licensed or about to be approved, including South Africa, Egypt, Uganda, India, and the UAE. ZedCrest Capital said it will provide operational and strategic support to help build the compliance, technology, and finance infrastructure to position Leatherback as an operating system for global mobility of businesses and individuals.
