Overview
Leko Labs has developed a novel wall and floor system built solely from wood and wood fibre and applies robotics-driven, automotive-style prefabrication to construction. The company says its engineered wood product can replace up to 75% of concrete and steel in a single building and withstands very high compression loads (claimed 30,000x its own mass). Leko asserts its approach can sequester substantially more carbon than traditional builds, save “thousands” of tonnes of CO2, reduce heating and cooling needs by up to 87%, and yield up to 10% more floor space. It operates a fully circular manufacturing process and delivers finished wall components from a factory in Luxembourg, claiming builds can be completed up to 50% faster versus traditional methods. Leko also offers a software platform that automates and optimizes building design, which it says can cut wood usage by up to 50% while improving thermal, acoustic and static properties and addressing moisture and noise issues. The material is intended for buildings up to 100m tall, and the company has multiple projects underway across the Benelux, including homes, offices and data centers. Founded in 2017 and based in Luxembourg, Leko plans to scale its software and robotics construction system throughout Europe, including Germany, the Nordics and the U.K. Remo Gerber has been appointed CEO while founder François Cordier will focus on product as CTO.
