Overview
Leukos Biotech is a Barcelona, Spain–based biotechnology company developing a novel class of drugs around a newly discovered therapeutic target that selectively destroys leukemic stem cells. Founded in October 2015 by the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute and Dr. Ruth M. Risueño, the company is advancing therapies for leukemia. Its lead program aims to move a first candidate into clinical trials for acute myeloid leukaemia in patients aged 60 and over who are not suitable for bone marrow transplant or aggressive chemotherapy. Leukos also plans to develop a pipeline of follow-up candidates targeting leukaemia stem cells in other types of leukaemia. The company recently raised €3.5m to advance these development efforts. Dr. Enrique Llaudet participated in the financing and joined Leukos as CEO.
