Overview
Levicept was founded by researcher Simon Westbrook after he bought a protein asset he discovered at Pfizer's Sandwich, U.K., R&D campus. The company's sole candidate, LEVI-04, is a p75 neurotrophin receptor fusion protein (p75NTR-Fc) designed to target the neurotrophin pathway and provide pain relief without interrupting cartilage and bone repair. LEVI-04 is intended as a once-monthly injectable to combat osteoarthritis and chronic pain. Levicept has assembled about $20 million in venture and grant funding, comprising a £10 million A round and a £2.4 million Innovate U.K. grant. The new financing will fund early lab work and a proof-of-concept human trial in osteoarthritis patients. Index Ventures previously provided seed funding in 2012, and the A round involves investors with deep life-sciences experience.
