Overview
Bullet Messaging is a mobile chat app developed by startup Kuairu with backing from Beijing-based smartphone maker Smartisan. The app emphasizes communication efficiency through voice-to-text transcription as a core feature, differentiating it from WeChat's typical walkie-talkie use. It launched on August 20 and immediately became the top-ranked free app on China’s iOS App Store, according to App Annie. The team has said it wants to integrate Alipay to enable mobile payments within the messenger. Smartisan CEO Luo Yonghao announced a US$22 million Series A just days after launch but did not disclose investors. Luo characterized Bullet Messaging as targeting a niche of users focused on efficiency rather than seeking a direct head-on rivalry with WeChat.
