Overview

Libox is an Israeli peer-to-peer application that scans a user's primary computer for photos, videos, and music and streams that media to other devices via apps or a browser. Its iPhone app had just launched and mobile web support works on iPhone and Android browsers, with an Android native app in development. The desktop app scans and indexes local media and transcodes files on the fly so they can be streamed to target devices, though the scanning process can be slow and buggy. The system requires the host computer to be powered on and the Libox desktop app running; the company plans to cache frequently accessed media in the cloud in the future. Libox also enables sharing with other Libox users, but it is not designed for mass distribution and could face copyright concerns with music or Hollywood content. The company has raised $2 million in seed funding from Evergreen Venture Partners and Rhodium; it was founded by Erez Pilosof, who previously founded Walla!.
