Light Trace Photonics, founded in 2021 by Dr. Jake Biele and Dr. Dominic Sulway, specialises in photonic chips and developer hardware. The company’s existing product, the LightPort, is a photonic chip component evaluation board for rapid prototyping and training. Proceeds from the new funding will be used to develop and launch LightCraft, a platform offering a library of pre-tested photonic chip components and subsystems to accelerate product development. LightCraft is aimed at companies and engineers in quantum, communications, and photonic processing, enabling faster evaluation, testing, and demonstration before committing to fabrication. The company positions its products to help address a shortage of photonics engineers and to provide deployable solutions for sectors including climate tech, NHS pressures, and productivity challenges. Light Trace has previously received support and guidance from Innovate UK Business Growth on IP, marketing, and business strategy.
