Overview
Lightfox Games is a Seattle-based mobile game studio founded in 2019 that developed Knight's Edge, a 2021 PvP Raid Arena title for iOS and Android. Knight's Edge teams players in groups of three to battle monsters and other teams, and the studio celebrated the game's first anniversary in September. Lightfox employs nine people, and many of its founders, including CEO Ryan Hanft-Murphy, are former employees of Z2. The company raised $6 million in fresh capital to help fund development of a new game, and plans to reveal further details about that project this summer. CEO Hanft-Murphy confirmed the new funding but declined to provide investor names; an SEC filing for the round lists March Gaming director Louis Gresham and Hiro Capital founder/partner Cherry Freeman. Lightfox previously raised $3.3 million in a 2020 seed round that included March Gaming, Hiro Capital, and Ed Fries' 1Up Ventures. Lightfox Games is a Seattle-based developer and publisher building Super Battle League, a 3v3 real-time mixed PvE and PvP mobile midcore game. Super Battle League uses portrait orientation and one-handed play to present as a casual, party-based PvE experience while layering depth through PvP, gear progression, perks, cosmetics and hundreds of randomly generated arenas. The company aims to expand midcore mobile genres to a wider casual audience by introducing progression systems over time and emphasizing short, competitive three-minute sessions. Lightfox is also exploring opportunities in esports and mobile-focused content creation to reach broader streaming audiences. The founding team—Ryan Hanft-Murphy, Jordan Arnold, Rex Downham and Tony Tewes—are industry veterans with experience at King, Zynga, EA, Disney and previously worked together at Z2. The company was founded in 2019 and plans to use funding to grow the team and bring its first product to market.
