Overview
Lignin Industries develops Renol, a patented thermoplastic derived from lignin intended to replace fossil-derived plastics across multiple end markets. The company has partnered with UK-based Hellyar Plastics, a compounder and distributor, to deliver materials to customers in consumer electronics, home goods, construction, and appliances. One commercial product is e-commerce bags made by blending Renol with recycled plastics for fashion brands, which the company says match functionality while reducing CO₂ footprints. Stockholm-based Lignin Industries raised €3.9 million to accelerate commercial scale-up, ramp up production, and expand market reach. The round was led by the Carrick family, founders and majority owners, and supported by more than two dozen private investors from diverse sectors, with new investors accounting for over 40% of the round. The funding arrives amid broader European investment in lignin capacity and materials innovation, including planned large-scale lignin production projects and research into lignin-based resins and coatings.
