Likelii built a Pandora-like recommendation engine for wines and spirits that creates a unique DNA for almost every brand it lists. Co-founded by Radhika Dutt and Jennifer Joyce (both from MIT) with a CTO who previously worked at Harmonix, the site lets users type a favorite brand, varietal, or style and returns a set of bottles plus a score predicting how much they’ll like them. The algorithms analyze about 1M data points and continuously refine recommendations as they gather more personal taste data. Likelii has also launched a Facebook game, likeliitocost, to engage users by showing bottle labels and asking users to guess prices. Financially, the company raised $450,000 from angel investors and reports that customers buy roughly five bottles per visit on average, versus two in traditional wine stores.
