Overview

Limeroad, founded in 2012 and headed by Suchi Mukherjee, Ankush Mehra, Manish Saksena and Prashant Malik, was the first Indian social e-commerce fashion platform. The platform lets users shop online and create lookbooks that can be shared across social platforms, and carries a wide selection of apparel and accessories for women, men and children. It has expanded its assortment to include a home décor category offering paintings, photo frames, wall hangings, wall clocks, panels, scones and other products. In July the company was the subject of reports that 1.29 million customer records were compromised; Limeroad refuted those claims as baseless. Financially, the company raised INR 11 crore ($1.49M) in this Series D equity round and has collectively raised over $51.4M across four rounds. Its most recent prior institutional round was in 2015, when it raised $30M from Tiger Global, Lighspeed Venture Partners and Matrix Partners. LimeRoad operates a fashion discovery site where users create and share "scrapbooks"—outfit collages composed of items pulled from different online stores. Its algorithm ranks the most popular scrapbooks and suggests them to other users, and shoppers can purchase and pay for products from different vendors directly on LimeRoad. The site reports users have posted more than 1.5 million scrapbooks, with about 100,000 scrapbooks created per day, representing a 100x increase in user activity in less than one year. LimeRoad is positioned within India’s growing e-commerce market and is compared to other product-discovery sites such as Roposo and the acquired Dootzon. The service helps shoppers navigate merchandise across major Indian platforms including Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Amazon India, as well as smaller vendors. Financially, LimeRoad has raised funding across multiple rounds totaling $60 million to date. LimeRoad operates a social discovery marketplace that surfaces user-generated fashion products and curated looks for women. The platform emphasizes community-created content, claiming over 1,500,000 products and looks that are 90% unique and user generated. Mobile is a core focus: LimeRoad launched an Android app and reports mobile traffic growing 45% month-on-month. Its catalog of user-generated content is expanding rapidly, cited as growing 30–40% per month. The company aims to use new capital to grow its site and scale its Android presence to reach India’s large smartphone user base. Competitors mentioned in the article include Myntra, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Doozton.
