Limitless offers a VR authoring tool that enables artists to create character animations while wearing an HTC Vive headset and using hand controllers. Users can move pre-made characters in 3D, set action points (for example wing flaps), save scripts to the cloud, and play animations back in real time. The company says the tool can speed up animation creation by at least 16×, allowing faster prototyping and more iterative experimentation. Limitless is focused specifically on character animation rather than general VR environment creation. The team includes CEO Tom Sanocki and creative director Jon Collins, a professional animator with credits at Pixar, ILM, Blue Sky, Blizzard, and ToyTalk. The product has been demoed (for example with a character called “Gary the Gull”) and is positioned to make animation more accessible to non-professionals and faster for seasoned developers. Limitless has built a platform that enables content creators to design interactive VR characters that understand and react to users' speech and body language in real time, and that runs on existing VR headsets from major manufacturers. The company was founded in April 2015 by Tom Sanocki, a Pixar and Bungie alum who led character design teams at both firms. Limitless plans a character marketplace at launch and allows users to create custom animated characters or use existing ones while leaving storytelling, scripting and acting to creators. Its technology will debut at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), and the first publicly announced customer, VR film company Motional, produced a demo called "Gary the Gull" on the platform. The team includes former Pixar and Bungie staff (unnamed) and shares office space in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood with Pluto VR. Financially, Limitless has raised a small, undisclosed amount of funding to date and is considering raising more capital depending on VR market conditions.
