Overview
Line Games is the gaming arm of chat app firm Line, formed earlier this year when Line merged its gaming division from NextFloor (acquired in 2017). Its portfolio includes mobile social titles such as Dragon Flight (14 million users since 2012, peak $1M daily revenue) and Destiny Child, which has topped charts in Korea and seen international traction. Gaming/content is a major revenue source for Line: the content division has generated 28.5 billion JPY (~$250M) year-to-date and represents 19% of Line’s total revenue (compared with 79.3 billion JPY from advertising YTD). Line Games currently focuses on Japan, Korea, Thailand and Taiwan but plans to use new capital to source new IP, identify titles with global potential and pursue strategic deals. The business is also expanding beyond mobile to non-mobile platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and other consoles.
