Liquid Wire

8240 SW Nimbus Ave, Beaverton, Oregon, 97008, United States

Overview

Liquid Wire is a Portland, Ore.-based global leader in the emerging field of liquid metal circuitry. Founded in 2016 and led by CEO Mark Ronay, the company produces conformal and pliable electronic circuits using a patented class of non-toxic printable liquid metals printed on plastic and textile substrates. Its core product is stretchable, printable liquid-metal circuitry for flexible electronic applications. The company closed a $10M Series A equity financing led by Deerfield Management Company. Liquid Wire intends to use the funds to expand its stretchable electronics technologies into the medical wearables market. Liquid Wire produces MetalGel™, a patent-pending high-conductivity gel based on a gallium-indium alloy subjected to a proprietary chemical process that induces an inorganic analogue of gelification. The process yields a high-viscosity, easily wettable metal fluid that can be printed and encapsulated onto elastic membranes and patterned directly to form electroactive structures. MetalGel™ exhibits a linear change in conductivity under tension or compression, enabling complex conductors, 2D and 3D sensors, RF antennas and other integrated components in technical textiles. The company intends to commercialize MetalGel™ across the $175B technical textiles market for wearable sensors, power and signal transmission on a wide range of textile materials. Financially, the Beaverton, Ore.–based early-stage company received a follow-on seed-stage investment from the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI); the amount was not disclosed. ONAMI’s initial stake validated MetalGel’s value proposition and funded the company’s initial marketing program, and the company is led by founder and Managing Director Mark Ronay.
