Lithea
Kung Oskars väg 11c, Lund, Skane Lan, 222 35, Sweden
Overview
Founded in 2021, Lithea is building a calcium sulphate/hydroxyapatite (CaS/HA) platform that places drug-filled pellets directly inside solid tumours to maximise efficacy while minimising systemic toxicity. Its lead candidate, LIT1001, embeds the chemotherapy agent doxorubicin in a resorbable pellet designed for osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer that predominantly affects children. In pre-clinical animal studies the approach produced a 92 % reduction in tumour size and substantially lower systemic drug levels versus conventional therapy. LIT1001 has already secured U.S. FDA Orphan Drug Designation, accelerating its regulatory pathway. Near-term, the company plans to generate additional scientific data and prepare for first-in-human trials. Longer-term, management intends to adapt the platform to more common cancers such as breast, lung and prostate. To finance these milestones, Lithea recently closed new funding from existing investors and obtained a government innovation grant, bringing in a combined €878k.
