LivingFilters

Malmö, Skane Lan, Sweden, Europe

Overview

LivingFilters develops AI-designed protein binders that can selectively recognize and bind single target contaminants for use in biosensors and filter components. The platform can computationally initiate a new binder within hours and experimentally validate it within weeks, leveraging breakthroughs in computational protein design and expertise originating from the Baker Lab. The company plans to commercialize two initial products—rapid biosensor probes and selective filter components—and will run a pilot project to validate performance in operational water treatment plants. LivingFilters aims to work with partners at Lund University, RecoLab, and industry players to accelerate deployment. The startup raised €420K in a pre-seed round led by Turbine Capital with participation from Filip Larsson, Johan Billgren, Skåne Ventures, and Peter Neubauer to fund these efforts. Regulatory drivers noted in the article include upcoming EU requirements for PFAS monitoring from January 2026 and revised wastewater rules mandating additional treatment for pharmaceuticals and micropollutants by 2033.
