Local Heroes operates an e-commerce platform that brings local entrepreneurs and neighborhood shops online so customers can order groceries and other goods from nearby businesses. The service launched in Amsterdam-West in March and enabled orders from the Ten Katemarkt and Oud-West district. The company says many customers are already using its app to order from local businesses. After raising over €1M, Local Heroes plans to focus on IT and the sustainability of its operations, and a new development team that previously worked at Booking.com will join. It aims to build a city-wide network of public pickup points in collaboration with the municipality of Amsterdam as a proof point for broader expansion. The company has received requests from cities across the Netherlands and from the UK, Sweden, Belgium, and Italy, indicating international interest.
