LocalMaven operates an online marketplace connecting businesses with trusted experts — "mavens" — who promote discounts and deals in exchange for commission. Each maven uses a unique promotional code for referrals so the platform can track which recommendations lead to sales and pay referrers accordingly. Businesses control promotion details such as commission rates and deal exclusivity, and users can register as mavens, businesses, or deal redeemers. The company plans to allow businesses to offer discounts instead of cash commissions in the future and includes ratings for both businesses and referrers to discourage spammy behavior. Founder and CEO Arnon Rosan built the product out of frustration in the events business with a lack of referral tracking. LocalMaven is officially launching today and has raised $1.4 million in seed funding from undisclosed investors.
