LocalStack offers a local emulator (distributed as a Docker image with AWS APIs) and a complementary cloud platform that provides team collaboration, telemetry and insights. The company maintains an open-source community edition with roughly one-third of supported AWS services public, while the remaining services are available to paying customers from a private repository. LocalStack supports more than 100 core AWS services (including Cognito/IAM, Kinesis and Athena) and is used both on developers' laptops and in CI pipelines. The startup counts about 900 paying users, including self-serve customers such as Apple, Comcast, IBM and Workday, and reports “substantial revenue numbers.” It operates a global team of more than 50 people, mostly out of Europe, with a customer base concentrated in the U.S. Product roadmap includes early-preview Snowflake support and a planned expansion to multi-cloud (Azure support targeted for 2025).
