Locum's Nest operates an app that matches doctors to on-demand shifts across private and public healthcare organisations. It runs a pay-as-you-go model, charging a small fee per successfully filled shift. The company says this approach could save the NHS an estimated £250m in payouts to traditional recruitment firms. Founded by two former NHS doctors, Locum's Nest has matched more than 40,000 doctors to shifts across 15 hospitals and nearly 100 GP practices to date. Stakeholders include NHS Providers, Digital Health.London and Doctors.Net.UK. The startup recently secured an additional £3m in funding, taking its total raised to £4.1m. Locum's Nest is a UK mobile-first platform that connects NHS hospitals and trusts with temporary healthcare professionals. Developed by Dr Ahmed Shahrabani and Dr Nicholas Andreou, the service matches available doctors with hospital shifts to fill rota gaps and maximize utilization of a hospital's existing workforce. It operates on a pay-as-you-go structure. The company secured £1.1m in funding in a round led by Albion Capital. The investment will be used to expand the company nationally and add additional functionality to the service. The platform is designed to manage staffing shortages by efficiently placing doctors in vacant shifts for NHS trusts.
