Loksys Solutions Ltd, based in Trafford Park, Manchester, developed a system for securing freight containers called Trakalok. Trakalok is a patented product that combines a tamper-proof lock with a GPS tracking system, enabling containers to be locked and monitored throughout their journey. The founders, brothers Simon and Ian McDermott, spent three years developing the system. Trakalok is already in use by customers in Europe, South America and China. The company received a £500K investment from The North West Fund for Venture Capital, managed by Enterprise Ventures. Loksys intends to use the capital to further develop the product, increase sales and marketing, and recruit additional staff to support worldwide operations at Trafford Park.
