Lookback
68 Willow Rd, Menlo Park, CA, 94025, US
Overview
Lookback provides a UX research platform that records or livestreams participants' interactions — their screen, face, voice and gestures — so researchers and designers can watch and understand user behavior. Its platform supports moderated and unmoderated sessions and includes a product called Lookback Live that lets researchers speak to remote participants, moderate real-time sessions (including on mobile), and invite colleagues to watch and take notes. Sessions are streamed over the internet in real time, enabling teams to collaborate during research. Customers include Facebook, Netflix, Dropbox, MailChimp, SAP, Trello and SoundCloud. Founded in Sweden in 2013 and based in Menlo Park, the company raised $6M in funding. The company said it will use the proceeds to expand its operations. Lookback provides an SDK that lets developers record high‑quality mobile app sessions including the screen, front‑facing camera, and audio, and organizes recordings on its servers in a searchable dashboard. The product emphasizes high‑frame‑rate capture (near 60 fps) and supports an opt‑in experience that can be integrated into App Store apps as well as pre‑release builds. Today the solution is iOS‑only and is available for free, with plans to move to subscription pricing in the future. The company reports usage by roughly 4,000 companies and has recorded about 15,000 user experiences to date. Lookback faces competitors such as Watchsend, UserVOD/Appsee, UserTesting and Usabilla but differentiates on video quality and developer integration. The team is Stockholm‑based and founded by ex‑Spotify engineers Jonatan Littke and Joachim Bengtsson, with Carl Littke also on the team. Using the new funding the company plans to expand its engineering, design, product and UX research staff to build a distributed team and grow the product.
