Lookup is a chat-first service built on top of Google Maps API that lets users find local stores, hotels and services and connect with merchants inside the app. It routes basic queries to automated bots and sends messages to Lookup’s operations center when merchants have not yet claimed their account. The company started last December and currently lists about 70,000 merchants across Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai, with 1.2 million registered users and roughly 250,000 monthly active users. Lookup does not integrate with POS or inventory systems and does not yet generate revenue. Planned monetization includes integrated payments (with Lookup taking a cut) and a paid lead-generation engine that surfaces merchants for specific searches. The recent funding will be used to expand product development and grow the service’s footprint and merchant base.
