Loom.ai

525 Brannan Street Suite 206, San Francisco, CA, 94107, US

Overview

Loom.ai provides a fully embedded mobile SDK that transforms a single photograph into a personalized, animatable 3D avatar using deep learning, computer vision and visual effects. The company’s technology powers real-time expressive avatars for mobile messaging, AR/VR, entertainment, e-commerce, video conferencing and broadcasting. Loom.ai is based in San Francisco and is an alum of the Y Combinator Fellowship; its founding team includes Academy Award–winning visual effects veterans from DreamWorks and Lucasfilm. The company recently announced a partnership with Samsung to power AR Emojis on the Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices. Loom.ai has added digital media executive David Anderman and Stanford professor Jeremy Bailenson to its advisory board. The new funding will be used to accelerate hiring, forge additional partnerships, and continue development of its SDK. Loom.ai offers an avatar system that creates a realistic 3D avatar from a single user photo. The company is further developing machine learning to let avatars capture finer aspects of personality by ingesting more facial data, including videos and photos. The team brings visual-effects expertise from LucasFilm and DreamWorks; CTO Kiran Bhat was the R&D facial lead on films like The Avengers. Loom.ai is SF-based and is positioning its tech as a more accessible alternative to costly volumetric capture used for celebrities. The company is taking beta sign-ups on its website. Financially, Loom.ai recently closed a seed financing to support product and ML development.
