Loopd

252 Ritch St, San Francisco, CA, 94107, USA

Overview

Loopd offers a bi-directional hardware and software relational analytics platform—smart badges plus iOS/Android apps—that enables passive check-ins, instant contact exchanges, content sharing, and real-time offline analytics at events. The company’s patent-pending beacon protocols power both wearables-based connected hardware and app-based solutions to generate actionable marketing and networking data. Loopd has deployed at major events including SXSW 2015, BoxDev 2015, and Xerocon 2015, and won industry awards for wearable and IoT data products. With the new financing, Loopd plans to build a more cost-effective, feature-rich analytics system, grow a high-velocity sales effort, enhance operations, and explore new market opportunities. Over the next year the team intends to power 20 Fortune 2000 corporate conferences with its wearables solution and 40 high-quality events with its app-based solution. The company also envisions future applications beyond events in industries such as health, manufacturing, supply chain, retail, humanitarian relief, and military deployments. Loopd builds a proximity-based marketing platform for conferences that combines bi-directional beacons placed around event spaces, chips embedded in conference badges, and a mobile app to track attendee location. After each day attendees can see where they spent their time and access related documents, videos, and other content, while marketers can identify booth visitors and direct follow-up efforts. The app supports note-taking, export to sales software, and an anonymous badge mode to let attendees control shared information. Hardware chips cost under $5 each to produce and can last for up to two weeks; they continue tracking when offline and update data once connectivity returns. The technology has been tested at internal events and the company is officially launching the product targeted initially at corporate events. Loopd has raised $1 million in angel funding from Tim Draper, Marc Benioff, and Xinhui Nui. The company and its backers have suggested a longer-term vision to extend the device's location-data use cases beyond conferences.
