Loosecubes
Suite 904, DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY, United States
Overview
Loosecubes operates a marketplace that matches people looking for workspace with hosts who have empty desks, studios, or sofas. The company has grown to more than 13,000 members and lists roughly 1,000 workspaces across over 230 cities in 66 countries. It offers a curatorial hosting model where Hosts specify the types of professionals they want to host and includes images and location details. Loosecubes recently launched an HTML5 mobile app and plans to release an iOS app in July while shifting to an invite-only model. The startup intends deeper integration with LinkedIn and Facebook to let users find spaces with mutual social connections. It is experimenting with monetization, including limited free passes and subscription fees for access. Loosecubes is a workplace-sharing community that emphasizes matching people with people for co-working rather than merely listing spaces. The company is seed funded by Accel and Battery Ventures. Founder Campbell McKellar aims to evolve Loosecubes into more of a social network for co-working, adding social features so users can vet the people who frequent a space. Ahead of a site and product relaunch next week, Loosecubes built an HTML5 micro app called Instant Jelly for SXSW to create spontaneous co-working events. Instant Jelly lets users enter a Twitter handle, When/Where/Theme, tweets events via @instantjelly (or via a unique RSVP link), and lets hosts approve or deny invite requests. Loosecubes is also hosting a Co-Working Un-Conference in Austin at 301 Colorado tonight until 11pm to drive community engagement.
