Lost Lake Games raised $5 million in a funding round that was revealed via an SEC filing last month and is being announced now. The round was led by esports and gaming-focused VC Bitkraft Ventures and included Lightspeed Venture Partners, Moon Holdings, and 1Up Ventures (co-founded by former Xbox exec Ed Fries). The studio describes itself as “an independent studio committed to making games that blaze new trails” and appears to be building cross-platform titles, though it has not disclosed specific projects. Lost Lake is based in Seattle and emphasizes independence from any single platform or genre. The founding team is led by CEO and co-founder James Phinney, a former lead designer and producer for StarCraft who also worked at ArenaNet, Undead Labs, and Motiga. Other co-founders include animator and artist Katy Hargrove (art lead for Guild Wars 2; Valve, Warner Bros), technical artist Patrick Corwin (ArenaNet, Motiga), character artist Joe Pikop (Rockstar; ArenaNet, Motiga), and lead programmer Mark Pottorf (Airtight Games; most recently Highwire Games).
