Lufa Farms is a Montreal-based urban-farming enterprise that harvests fresh vegetables, herbs and fruits in commercial rooftop greenhouses. It offers locally grown produce directly to consumers who live and work near its sustainable urban farms. The company built a commercial-scale rooftop greenhouse in 2010 and in its first year produced more than 250 tons of fresh produce grown without herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. Lufa completed a $4.5M financing and intends to use the proceeds to construct two additional facilities in the greater Montreal area. The company also plans expansion into Boston, New York, Chicago and Toronto as part of its North American growth strategy, with Kubo providing greenhouse technology. The financing brought strategic investor and board involvement to support that expansion.
