Lugg

2261 Market Street #4050, San Francisco, CA, 94114, United States

Overview

Lugg is an app that connects users with local movers who arrive in roughly 20 minutes with vehicles equipped to handle large purchases and short-distance moves. Customers snap a photo of the item, enter pickup and destination, and pay in-app; Lugg charges a $30 base fare plus $0.75 per minute for loading/unloading and $2 per mile, with average Bay Area moves of $40–$65. Drivers keep 80% of the fare and Lugg assigns two people per truck, allowing helpers without vehicles to work shifts. Launched in early 2015 in the San Francisco Bay Area after graduating Y Combinator’s Summer 2015 class, the company began as a bootstrapped, three-person team. Lugg has handled thousands of moves, nearing the six-figure mark, and has partnerships with 17 retailers (including Costco, IKEA, Home Depot, Pottery Barn and West Elm) that refer business. The company plans to hire in engineering and operations, add Android support, expand across the wider Bay Area by year-end, and target new cities (potentially New York or L.A.) in 2016.
