Overview
Lulu (formerly Luluvise) is a girls-only mobile app that lets women anonymously review and recommend men, with men blocked from joining via Facebook login and other checks. After rebooting in February to focus on U.S. college campuses, the London/U.S. company grew to 200,000 users in eight weeks across five actively marketed universities. It identifies an addressable market of about 6 million female U.S. undergraduates and projects it could reach one in four female undergraduates by year-end as it scales nationwide. Reported engagement metrics include 50% weekly return rate, eight visits per week on average, 45 minutes spent per user per week, and 52% of users creating content. Overall platform activity cited: 57 million profile views, 4 million sessions, 5.2 million reviews read, and 10 million searches. The company reports a customer acquisition cost of $0.07 per user and 35–40% penetration within 2–3 weeks at the first five universities. Lulu has attracted criticism and potential legal concerns over its anonymous-review model; its terms of service place responsibility on women posting reviews. In February it announced an additional $2.5M, bringing total raised to $3.5M, with backers including Passion Capital, PROfounders and angels such as Yuri Milner and Dave Morin.
