Lumen Learning provides affordable courseware built from open educational resources (OER) and support to help institutions transition high-enrollment courses to OER. Its courseware and services have been used by more than 60 higher-education institutions, including large U.S. community colleges. The company offers implementation support to increase adoption of OER and reduce textbook costs for students. Led by CEO and co-founder Kim Thanos, Lumen has received grant funding from major foundations to support its work. It will use the new equity funding to scale North American operations and grow student enrollments. The company is headquartered in Portland, Oregon and focuses on partnering with institutions to implement open courseware at scale.
