Lumox
Overview
Lumox develops a targeted cancer therapy that uses nanobodies to deliver a light-sensitive drug which is activated only when clinicians illuminate the tumor site. The technology originates from over a decade of research at the University of Utrecht and the research group of dr. Sabrina Oliveira. Founders dr. Irati Beltrán Hernández (CSO) and dr. Sebas Pronk (CEO) established Lumox to translate that lab work into clinical applications. The company is initiating a Phase I/IIa clinical trial at UMC Utrecht focused on head-and-neck cancers to assess safety, applicability and dosing. Lumox secured €4.5M+ from KWF Kankerbestrijding to fund this first clinical study. The company has stated plans to explore application of the approach in other cancer types if the initial trial is successful.
