Founded in 2020 out of Dublin City University, Luna Systems builds vision-based Advanced Rider Assistance Systems that combine rear- and forward-facing cameras with on-device AI to deliver collision warnings, blind-spot detection, headway monitoring and post-ride incident mapping for bicycles and motorcycles. The company initially deployed its technology on shared e-scooters, but pivoted to consumer cycling and OEM integrations after the scooter market contracted. Its first consumer rear-camera product will launch later this year, while a dual-camera system for bike and motorcycle manufacturers is slated for 2026. Luna’s platform processes video at the edge, blurring faces and licence plates to preserve privacy while interpreting risk in real time. Future features include “reverse blind-spot” detection to warn riders when they are hidden from surrounding vehicles. The company targets commuter, enthusiast and cargo-bike segments first, using direct-to-consumer sales to gather data and iterate before scaling through OEM partnerships. The recent €1.5 million financing extends hardware development and supports European distribution, but no revenue or user figures have been disclosed.
