Luum

119 South Main Street #310, Seattle, Washington, 98104, United States

Overview

Luum has developed an AI-based Lash Robot that automates eyelash extension procedures for salon customers. The robot can complete the procedure in under 20 minutes versus two to three hours by a human, and the company says the process is safer and more accurate. Luum developed prototypes from scratch, patented a combination of AI, robotics, and computer vision, and is conducting consumer trials. The company plans to open its first stand-alone studios in San Francisco later this year and will continue improving the technology over the next six to nine months. Early robots are being built in Berkeley while production machines will be made in Japan; the robot unit price is about $125,000 and Luum argues salons can recoup that cost compared with employee expenses. The Oakland, California-based company has raised $10 million from Foundation Capital and others, has 15 employees, and was founded by Nathan Harding; Philippe Sanchez joined as CEO in November 2019.
