Luxtera intends to use the funding to pursue design-win opportunities and increase market adoption of its technology. Luxtera is a Carlsbad-based Caltech spinoff that develops optical interconnects and optoelectronic products. Its product lineup includes an optoelectronic cable capable of data transmission up to 40 Gbps. The company is working under contracts with Sun Microsystems and DARPA to develop chip-to-chip optical interconnects using CMOS processes. According to the PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA MoneyTree report, Luxtera raised $26.75M in another venture round.
