Lynred is a Grenoble-based developer of infrared sensing technology focused on next-generation short-wave infrared (SWIR) imaging and configurable multi-spectral imaging focal planes. The company is leading a 10-partner HEROIC consortium to pursue CMOS-compatible read-out integrated circuit R&D over four years. The project targets superior fidelity, faster frame rates and extended radiation range for defence imaging applications, with anticipated benefits for post-2030 defence systems. Lynred emphasizes delivering these capabilities from within a robust EU supply chain to secure European industrial sovereignty in IR sensor design and supply. The consortium work covers integration with various IR detectors and 2D/3D architectures and involves both manufacturers and system integrators. Financially, Lynred announced an €18 million allocation from the European Defence Fund for the project, with the overall spend likely to total about €19 million.
