M-Files
500 W 2nd Street, 19th Floor, Austin, Texas, 78701, United States
Overview
M-Files provides an intelligent, repository-neutral platform that leverages metadata and artificial intelligence to break down information silos and unify systems, data and content across an organization. The platform embeds within popular digital workplace applications including Microsoft 365, Salesforce and Google Workspace to let users access and manage documents where they work. M-Files operates on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, which the company says continues to propel its strong growth. The company serves thousands of customers in over 100 countries and has more than 500 employees across 11 global offices. Leadership has emphasized continued product development, AI and cloud platform innovation as priorities following the new investment. Management plans to use the funding to accelerate growth and further expand market penetration, especially in North America. M-Files provides an enterprise information management (EIM) platform for managing front-office and back-office business operations. Its solution classifies content based on relevance rather than location and employs search, auto-classification and machine learning to manage information without migration or duplication. The platform integrates with core business systems including Documentum, OpenText, SharePoint, Box, Salesforce and SAP to unify documents and other unstructured content. Led by executive chairman Jim Geary, M-Files serves customers such as SAS, OMV and NBC Universal and maintains a global partner network of over 450 partners in more than 100 countries. The company raised $36M in a Series B round to accelerate sales and marketing, strengthen its partner network and expand into new markets in North America, EMEA and APAC. The round was led by Partech Ventures with participation from Finnish Industry Investment and Draper Esprit. M-Files provides a metadata-based enterprise content management solution that manages information by what it is rather than by folder location, supporting on-premise, cloud, and hybrid storage. Its interface exposes files via the Windows Explorer UI and supports standard File Open/Save commands, while integrating with CRM, ERP and accounting systems including Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics (GP, AX, NAV, online), and NetSuite. The company says its approach modernizes enterprise document management by surfacing content via metadata rather than traditional folder hierarchies. M-Files has expanded from its Tampere, Finland base and already counts enterprise customers in the U.S. such as AstraZeneca, SAS, Pandora, the United Nations, Northrop Grumman, Charles Schwab, Hecla Mining, and Hill+Knowlton. It raised a €6 million (~$7.8M) Series A to fund growth, with stated plans to accelerate U.S. expansion and bolster sales and marketing through partner channels. As part of the financing announcement, Jim Geary, Bob Suh and DFJ Esprit’s Mikko Suonenlahti joined the board of directors.
