M9 Defense builds Boroclave presses that use hydroforming technology to mass-produce ballistic and non‑ballistic composite parts. The company says its composites deliver the highest strength-to-weight ratios available and can be formed at speeds comparable to sheet metal processing. Hydroforming involves filling tubes with fluid and increasing pressure to expand the tube material to match a mold in one or two manufacturing steps. The article notes automakers such as BMW and the Hyundai‑Kia group have used hydroforming to make more fuel-efficient vehicle parts. M9 targets customers in defense, transportation, and energy seeking lighter, stronger materials and reduced material usage. The company can form components for cars, aircraft, vehicles, body armor, wind-turbine blades, telephone poles, and satellites. M9 raised $1.4 million in a Series A, according to an SEC filing.
