MacroCycle

700 Technology Square 5th floor, Cambridge, MA, 02139, United States

Overview

MacroCycle Technologies uses its patented SolvoGenesis chemistry to upcycle plastic waste into virgin-grade plastic with zero carbon emissions without breaking down the polymer. The process consumes 80 percent less energy than traditional plastic recycling, with the remaining energy supplied by renewables. MacroCycle can produce virgin-grade recycled PET from feedstocks such as bottles, food trays, and polyester textiles. The company plans to scale pilot plant facilities to meet demand from initial customers and to validate large-scale production. Its first pilot plant will produce the first bottles and garments made entirely from MacroCycle’s recycled PET resin. MacroCycle raised $6.5M in Seed funding to hire and expand pilot operations. The technology’s groundwork came from academic work by co-founder and CTO Dr. Jan-Georg Rosenboom and colleagues at MIT, ETH Zurich and Politecnico Di Milano, and the company positions itself to address a $700B linear plastics market with a drop-in, more efficient solution.
