macu4 builds software and a webshop that converts customer measurement points into 3D-print files for individual forearm prostheses. The automated process lowers the cost of a prosthesis by up to 75%, which is particularly important for children who need multiple replacements. The team began selling in July and has delivered more than 20 prostheses to users in Switzerland, Germany and Italy. To support EU sales the company has established a German subsidiary. macu4 closed a seed round of nearly CHF700,000; a CHF300,000 equity investment from Roland Brack and Bettina Hein (for 10%) was agreed on the TV show and has been completed. The fresh capital will be used to raise awareness and to improve the website and webshop as part of the rollout.
