made of air
Rollbergstraße 28a, Berlin, 12053, Germany
Overview
Made of Air produces durable, carbon-negative thermoplastic compounds by combining biochar (from pyrolyzed wood waste) with bioplastics to lock carbon into long-lived materials. The company targets durable applications — furniture, interior/exterior panelling, car dashboards and closed-loop industrial products — rather than single-use consumer goods. It has early experimental partnerships with Audi, H&M and an unnamed U.S. furniture maker and has shipped over 10 tons of material to more than four customers. MoA says its compounds are not biodegradable, aim to meet typical fire- and mechanical-property requirements for building materials, and are intended to be drop-in ready for existing forming processes. The startup is preparing its first pilot production line and expects prices to fall toward fossil plastics as it scales. Founded in 2016 and based in Berlin, MoA positions its product as a method for carbon removal with potential circular end-of-life pathways (grind and return to soil) for durable products.
