MAG Interactive is a Swedish mobile app studio best known for Ruzzle, a competitive word-finding game played on a four-by-four grid. The company launched Ruzzle in March of last year after transitioning from a studio-for-hire to building its own titles. Ruzzle was soft-launched, took off in late 2012 and early 2013, hit the #1 spot in the U.S., and has been downloaded more than 45 million times in the past 18 months. MAG Interactive was already profitable at the time of the raise and did not need the capital. None of the team took money off the table; the investment was placed into MAG Interactive’s parent company. The company plans to hire beyond its current headcount of 22 and to shift Ruzzle from a premium, pay-to-remove-ads model toward a more proper free-to-play experience.
