Overview
MangoPlate is a South Korean restaurant discovery service launched in October 2013 by Dae-woong Kim. The platform provides personalized restaurant recommendations by analyzing restaurant data, individual preferences and social networks rather than acting as a simple directory. Users can submit reviews and photos about their dining experiences. The company closed an additional $6.1M funding round and has raised over $7.2M to date. Backers in the round include Qualcomm Ventures, SoftBank Ventures Korea and YJ Capital. MangoPlate intends to use the funds to focus on customer acquisition, feature enhancement and POI expansion throughout Korea. MangoPlate is a South Korean restaurant search and discovery mobile app that provides customized restaurant recommendations. It was founded by a four-member team from Samsung, KaKao, Naver and Apple. The recommendation engine runs on a database of 200,000 restaurants in Korea and uses algorithms that factor a user’s food personality, social profile, cuisine type, ratings and location. The app launched in October 2013 and is available on Android and iOS in both English and Korean. MangoPlate has raised seed funding from SparkLabs Global Ventures, though the amount was not disclosed. No additional financial details or future plans were reported in the article.
