Overview

Mantis Vision is a Petach Tikva, Israel-based provider of advanced 3D sensing, volumetric content acquisition and sharing technologies. Its product set includes 3D cameras for smartphones, industrial and professional 3D cameras/scanners, and live 3D volumetric studio solutions. Led by founder and CEO Gur Arie Bitan, the company serves both consumer and industrial applications. The company intends to use new funds to extend its technological edge, accelerate its go-to-market strategy, expand its international workforce and support external growth opportunities. As part of the financing Mantis Vision and lead investor Luenmei Quantum formed a joint venture, MantisVision Technologies, to strengthen growth in the Greater China market with operating offices in Beijing and Shanghai. At the time of the article the company had raised $83M in total funding after closing the $55M Series D. Mantis Vision, founded in 2005 in Israel, develops the MV4D motion-capable 3D range-imaging platform that uses light-pattern projection, depth sensors and proprietary light-processing algorithms to create depth maps. The company also provides post-processing software and an SDK-like application platform for editing and viewing captured 3D data on mobile devices. Mantis began with handheld 3D scanners and has miniaturized components to pivot toward integration in handheld mobile devices and OEM licensing. Google is publicly using Mantis technology for its Project Tango 3D-sensing smartphone. The company has previously raised more than $25 million in private funding since founding and says it will reorganize and use new capital to focus on licensing its core technology and further developing its software platform and products. Its strategy emphasizes enabling mobile content creation, sharing and manipulation through both core 3D engine work and developer-facing tools.
